Features and Highlights

The modular System offers a perfect Configuration for your needs

Due the fact that WinGroupware was developed in seperate Modules for each Service, the System can save Resources on your Server, just because you are able to run only the required Servers and Services, ie. if you do not need to gather Mails via POP3, you can just disable the POP3 Downloader at all already at System-Startup Time. This works with all available Mail Protocols and Servers in your WinGroupware Installation.

Currently supported Protocols

Currently we support the following Protocols for handling and transmitting Messages:

SMTP to send Messages from your Clients to your Server and from your Server to the Internet (either to your ISP or direct to the Recipients Mailserver)

POP3 to gather Messages from your ISP (SmartPOP) and for offering a way to download Messages by your Clients from your Server

IMAP4 to manage Message Folders and Messages direct on your Server (from your connected Client Machines) - the Advantage of IMAP is that you are able to organize Messages in Folder Structures and that this Protocol is able to handle multiple Clients on the same Mailbox ("Team-Function"): as soon as one Client deletes a Message, the Information is automatically replicated to all other connected Clients - the Message will automatically disappear on all other Clients in nearly Realtime. Also, the upcoming Public Folders are based on the IMAP Protocol.

Integrated high-performance Anti-Spam Solutions

One of the most important Things in modern Mail Servers is a real efficient Spam Handling. The Filtering should protect your Clients from Spam, while good Messages should just bypass the Filter. WinGroupware is fully loaded with up-to-date Anti-Spam Filtering Technology to ensure that you get rid of the Spam Problem.

In most Scenarios the Spam Filtering occurs at the end of the Message Queue, which is mainly an epic fail: if the Message was received and accepted by your Mail Server, its too late -- the Spamming Party knows that Messages may be accepted by the Address. You will get more and more Spam Messages for this Account. Therefore it is really important that the Filtering occur directly before and while the Message is transmitted to the Mail Server.

Another big Enhancement is the possibility to configure Anti-Spam Settings for each User individually, even in the same Domain. This also works for Greylisting, ie. User A has Greylisting enabled, while User B has no Spam Protection enabled at all.

Currently available Anti-Spam Features

SpamPain, RBLs, Greylisting, GeoStop, SpamAssassin...

In WinGroupware 2011 we have included the following Technologies to protect your System from Spam Attacks:

SpamPain Realtime Anti-Spam Solution: Realtime Solution to get Messages targeted by IP Scoring, Protocol and Fingerprints of the receiving Message. Very accurate and always up-to-date since its an Online Solution.

RBL Lists: Query for known IP Addresses which have sent Spam before. You are abe to configure one or more RBLs to query, with different "weight" of each List and then decide if you like to reject or accept or prefix an incoming Message.

Greylisting: configurable individually on a per-User Basis with our Enhanced Greylisting Modules and Time Windows when Messages are able to pass.

SPF: Calculating/Query of SPF Entries in the DNS (Domain Name System).

GeoStop: With GeoStop you are able to calculate in Realtime from which Country the Connection comes from. This enables you to decide that you dont want Connections from a specific Country at all or on a User-Basis which Messages should handled as Spam - deleted, moved, prefixed etc.

SpamAssassin(tm) Anti-Spam Filter: After a Message has been received, it can also be checked by the SpamAssassin Anti-Spam Engine. As usual, its working on a per-User-Basis, just let your User decide how the Messages should be handled.

Enhanced/Other Checks: also there are some other Features implemented which are more or less Standard Procedures: IP-Black- and Whitelists or ie. Reverse-DNS Verification and more.

- all Servers are IPv6 ready

- IMAP Public Folders**

- IMAP Shared Folders from Users**

- Out-of-Office Addin for Outlook to let your Users manage their Out-of-Office Messages by theirselfs**

- high-performance Messagerouter, routes incoming Messages fast and accurate

- Realtime-Monitoring of the Activity of the Mail Server via GUI, ie. Message Queues, SMTP Delivery Informations, SMTP Server Runtime Informations etc.

- SmartPOP Downloader to gather Messages from remote POP3 Servers and routing these Messages to local Users.

- SmartHost Routing: Individual Routing of outgoing Messages, configurable by Source-/Destination Domain, with/without SSL/TLS Encryption.

- public LDAP Address Book, manageable due the GUI

- ODBC Mailinglists, enabled you to send Newsletter and Announcements to a large Number of Recipients, which are already stored in another Database, ie. directly out of your Customer Database.

- Alias-Domains, a sort of mapping into another Domain, ie. if an User A exists in Domain A and Domain B is an Alias-Domain of Domain A, the User A in Domain B is also available (the Message gets routed to User A in Domain A)

- Multi-SmartPOP Downloader per Domain: you can create more then one SmartPOP-Accounts to gather Mails from multiple POP3 Remote Servers per Domain. The Messagerouting can be static to a specified Account or automatically be handled by the Message Router, determinating the Recipient by parsing the Message Headers.

- GeoStop Technology: enables you to determinate the Country from where the connecting IP Address comes from. With GeoStop you can ie. reject Messages directly at the SMTP Protocol Level.

- Query of RBL Lists: asks RBL Lists if the Remote IP Address is a known Spammer IP Address. Works with multiple Lists and individual "weights" per List. You can decide systemwide to reject on the SMTP Level at a given Point-Value or pass the Messages to the User and let the User decide how these Messages should be handled.

- SMTP Special Account: gives you direct Access to the SMTP Protocol while the Connection is running. Very useful for old E-Mail Addresses, which are not in use anymore. You can define a customized Message which is sent to the Remote Server and optionally drop the Connection.

- Alias-Account, routes incoming Messages to another User.

- Postmaster-Accounts can receive external Messages (can be disabled), but mainly these Accounts receive Messages which are connected to Problems with your Mail Server, ie. Undelivery Reports or any other critical Events which require a manual Action from you (this is defined in a RFC).
